After 30 days of gruelling competition, the NHL Loser Challenge has come to completion and the final results are surprising.

Early battles had Kerri’s Kool Kats and The Biggest Loser battling for first place in the first 3 weeks. The Kool Kats claimed solo possession of first for days 10 and 11 before Team Dynamite wrested it from them for the next 3 days. At the mid-point of the contest, the Winnipeg Jets gave hope to their fans by claiming first for day 15. This was followed by four days of reign by the Kool Kats who were overcome by upstart Aloha Arlene. After four days at the top, the Arlene’s gave way to Team Dynamite who led the rest of the way, after both the Aloha Arlene’s and Team Dynamite forfeited on their last pick when they ran out of valid picks, taking away the last chance the Arlene’s had to tie Team Dynamite and split the first and second place prizes.

It is with pride we announce Team Dynamite have won the inaugural 2008 NHL Loser Challenge. Coaches Noah and Cole take home $70 for their first place finish with 72 points. Finishing in second with 63 points were the Aloha Arlene’s, coached surprisingly by Arlene, who takes home $20. With a strong season, staying in the mix the whole time, Team Husky, coached by Logan, takes home $10 for their third place finish with 59 points.

Awarded the Diamond Dave trophy this contest, and picking up $10 for his last place finish, was The Bourne Loser (2008), coached by Jim. Jim struggled the whole contest with his built-in instincts to pick winners and finished 11 behind ninth place with 21 points.

Account balances have been updated. Thanks to all that played. There will be no playoff hockey contest this year, but we hope to see you all back for more exciting CFL contests this summer.

Following the conclusion of the CFL season Saturday night, the results of the three 2007 Overtime Central CFL contests were tabulated and the winners determined. The results may shock and astound you.

2007 Overtime Central CFL Pool

PoolJunkie, coached by Gord Hanson, finished with 386 points to take first place, eight points ahead of Victorious Secret. Secret, coached by Jim Fedyk, finished strong with a first place October finish, but fell short of first place overall in the last week. Fedyk was able to leap from third to second to cap the season, finishing with 378 points, four ahead of the Davin Bulldogs who finish third for the third year in a row. A last week finish by PoolJunkie of three points over Victorious Secret helped Junkie hang on to his first place position, which he held since Week 11. The Bulldogs and Secret jockeyed for the second and third place positions the final four weeks of the season after early season contender BigMc_is_back fell off the pace.

PoolJunkie takes home $56 for hist first place finish, while Victorious Secret is awarded $16 and the Davin Bulldogs $8 for their second and third place finishes respectively.

The complete official results are as follows:

1 PoolJunkie	- 386 – $56 (coach: Gord Hanson)
2 Victorious Secret – 378 – $16 (coach: Jim Fedyk)
3 Davin Bulldogs	- 374 – $8 (coach: Brent Gessner)
4 BigMc_is_back	- 367
5 PromisedLand	- 354
6 KimchiPower	- 332
7 Ottawa’09orBust	- 328
8 PowerEdge	- 279

Special recognition to KimchiPower who as a Korean national out picked yours truly in one of my most humbling defeats ever.

Winners, please contract us at Overtime Central to specify your wishes regarding your winnings. We prefer that any winnings be paid out after any outstanding balances are paid.

Thanks to all participants for making this another exciting Overtime Central contest. Be sure to sign up for the 2007 CFL Playoffs Pick ‘em Pool and check back next year for more CFL contests.

2007 Overtime Central CFL Hi-Lo Challenge

In one of the most impressive second half comebacks since the 1963 Western Semi-Final “Miracle of Taylor Field” where the Saskatchewan Roughriders overcame a 35 – 9 deficit in a two game, total point series to defeat Calgary 48 – 47, HiLoJunkie rebounded from a poor start to jump into a share of first place in Week 11 and powered to a strong lead, only relinquishing it temporarily in Week 16. Gord Hanson, HiLoJunkie coach and professional prognosticator, guided his team to first place overall with 204 points. Finishing a distant second was Kerri’s Kool Kats, coached by Kerri Hysuick, with 172 points, proving that Gord has taught his sister almost everything he knows. Making a late charge and settling for third was Hi’n'Lois, coached by Jon Fedyk, who finished one point behind the Kats. Contending for spots earlier in the season only to fall off when the picks got tougher were Vote Quimby!, CFL4ever and the Davin Bull Dogs.

Fedyk boasted that he would have overcome both the Kats and Junkie eventually had there been more weeks in the season. Confident now in his strategy for this new contest, he predicted doom for the Hanson/Hysiuck duo next season.

HiLoJunkie takes home $56 for hist first place finish, while Kerri’s Kool Kats is awarded $16 and the Hi’n'Lois $8 for their second and third place finishes respectively.

The complete official results are as follows:

1 HiLoJunkie	- 204 – $56 (coach: Gord Hanson)
2 Kerri’s Kool Kats – 172 – $16 (coach: Kerri Hysuick)
3 Hi’n'Lois – 171 – $8 (coach: Jon Fedyk)
4 CFL4ever – 168
5 Vote Quimby! – 147
6 Davin Bulldogs – 144
7 PowerEdge – 86
8 It’s Off to Work We Go – 61

Winners, please contract us at Overtime Central to specify your wishes regarding your winnings. We prefer that any winnings be paid out after any outstanding balances are paid.

Thanks to all participants for making this new CFL contest a success. Be sure to sign up for the 2007 CFL Playoffs Pick ‘em Pool and check back next year for more CFL contests.

2007 Overtime Central CFL Start ‘em, Sit ‘em Draft

Displaying B.C. Lion dominance, CFL4ever led the way for every week except one from Week 5 to the finish. Coached by Bill Maguire, CFL4ever finished in first place with 13,306 points and takes home $56. Keeping things close in second place was the Davin Bulldogs, coached by Brent Gessner, with 13,122 points. Brent takes home $16 for his respectable results. Coming in third is SitemJunkie, coached by the venerable Gord Hanson, with 12,676 points. Gord adds to his retirement fund with an $8 payday.

Producing respectable results with a severe handicap was RosterIncomplete in fourth place. RosterIncomplete’s team was in disarray from day 1 when he failed to get his picks changed prior to the deadline and was left with his picks from testing. This severely hampered his ability to employ his game plan and once injuries hit, his team was devastated. Still, had he not flubbed the last week and not expected Winnipeg to lose to Montreal, and therefore Toronto be resting their players, he could have finished with 887 points in Week 19, placing him 157 points behind Junkie, and perhaps made him look over his shoulder. True story.

The complete official results are as follows:

1 CFL4ever	- 13,306 – $56 (coach: Bill Maguire)
2 Davin Bulldogs – 13,122 – $16 (coach: Brent Gessner)
3 SitemJunkie – 12,676 – $8 (coach: Gord Hanson)
4 RosterIncomplete – 11,978
5 g’s_guesses – 11,580
6 Jim’s Jihad – 11,266
7 Start Your Engines – 10,335
8 PowerEdge -6,406

Winners, please contract us at Overtime Central to specify your wishes regarding your winnings. We prefer that any winnings be paid out after any outstanding balances are paid.

Bonus Prize

You are still reading? Good. As a special thank you to participants this year, I have selected from those contestants who did not receive any final prizes one contestant randomly to receive our bonus prize. And the winner is: Greg Kreutzer! Greg wins a $20 gift certificate of his choice (iTunes, Chapters, Home Depot are some possibilities) or a $20 Overtime Central credit.

Stats

The 24 entries to the three contests this year came from ten individuals. There was $240 in entry fees received and prize money paid out, in addition to $80 in monthly and bonus prizes. If you want these numbers to increase, tell your friends and make sure they enter a contest, not just create an account. It is appreciated if you help collect entry fees from anyone you sign up.
A winner has been declared in the 2006 Overtime Central Road to Grey Cup Pool.

Overtime Central is pleased to announce that team Kenton “MaryJ” Keith, coached by Chad Olynick, pulled out the victory in the 2006 Road to Grey Cup Pool. After a poor start, Olynick powered to second and first place finishes the final two weeks to take the championship by three points with 87 points. Olynick takes home $77 for the victory.

Tying for second place was 4goodtimecall(403)340-xxx (name modified to protect the not so innocent), coached by Jim Fedyk and CupCountdown, coached by Cindy Kreutzer, who both finished with 84 points. Both teams counted 40 points the final week to move up one spot and a share of the money. They split second and third place prizes of $33 or $16.50 each.

Congratulations to the winners. Winnings will be credited to your accounts within a week. Overtime Central thanks everyone for their participation. Look for changes at overtimecentral.ca coming before we return (we hope) for NHL playoff contests.

In a tight race, CFL4ever eeked out top spot to take the Overtime Central 2006 CFL Pool Championship.

From what looked like a impossibility weeks ago with a commanding lead to only a two point lead three weeks ago, CFL4ever hung on to eek out a win in the Overtime Central 2006 CFL Pool.

CFL4ever, coached by Bill Maguire, finished with 364 points, four points ahead of second place. Bill takes home $56 for the first place finish.

Finishing in a close second place is WASC, coached by last year’s winner Greg Kreutzer. Greg takes home $16. WASC made a valiant effort to make up ground on the leader, but after narrowing the lead to two points, he was unable to make up the final ground in the last two weeks.

In a photo finish, third position was taken by the Davin Bull Dogs, coached by Brent Gessner. Brent takes home $8 but was oh, so close to more. The Bull Dogs, WASC and BestGuess all traded positions from second to fourth the final two weeks. In the end, the Bull Dogs had a better final week to finish three points ahead of BestGuess and only one point out of a share of second place. This is the second year in a row Davin Bull Dogs has finished in third position.
